Reader Appreciation Giveaway: NoonDay Collection

AND THE WINNER IS... Comment 10 - Donna. Donna has already been contacted. Thanks for playing, everyone! And thanks for supporting NoonDay Collection and The Girl Who!

You've likely noticed I've redesigned the site. You may not like it. It isn't exactly a top-notch redesign. But listen, I do it all myself and I'm not really a pro. But I kind of like that about the redesign. It's not a slick site, nor should it be. I mean, you've read it. I can't really stomach paying someone a buttload of money when I can figure out how to do most of it myself.

But enough about that. I wanted to direct your attention to the new Reader Appreciation Giveaway tab up there. The goal there is to highlight companies and products I like in exchange for them giving you guys free stuff. It's a way for me to say thank you for reading and clicking my Babble links. I won't accept payment for these posts and I won't accept freebies. Anything the company wants to offer up will go to y'all. This is different than the sponsored posts I do occasionally which I do get payment for. It will always be clear that the sponsored posts are ones I get payment for and the Reader Appreciation Giveaways will always be designated as such.

That said, if you have an Etsy Shop or know of an entrepreneur or anyone else who could use a little publicity, send them on over! They get publicity for a bargain, you get free stuff and I get to show you guys my appreciation for sticking around.

The first giveaway is by NoondayCollection.com. I can't think of a better way to kick off the Reader Appreciation Giveaway. This company is awesome. The founders are a couple, Joe and Jessica Honegger, who visited Uganda in 2010 and decided to internationally adopt. As a way to raise money for the adoption and help create sustainable income opportunities for the people of Uganda, the Honeggers partnered with some friends who live in the country and began selling stuff (bags, scarts, belts, sandals, hats) hand-made by Ugandans to people here in America. (You can read more about Jessica Honegger here).

The Honeggers raised money for their adoption but Jessica's quest to help the woman and children of Uganda and all over the world continues. By selling these beautiful pieces hand-crafted by women across the globe, she is creating jobs which enable these women to keep their children instead of being forced to put them up for adoption. The money also goes to help raise money for families hoping to adopt children who don't have parents. Noonday Collection also uses proceeds to care for orphans.

Anyone can sell Noonday Collection products to earn extra income and, in doing so, provide a way for women around the world to use their talent and skills to earn a living. Which is where Grace Miller comes in. She's become an ambassador for Noonday Collection (you can too!) but as Grace tells me, it's not about the money she makes. "I already have a full-time job...I'm just trying to love people in the world the way that God intended. And opening up the western market to these women in impoverished areas is a great way to show God's love...I think it's amazing how having a job and being paid a fair wage can restore a person's dignity, sense of purpose and welfare."

The NoonDay Collection piece Grace wants to give away to draw your attention to the cause is this unbelievably cool necklace which normally retails for $62:

This piece is handmade in Ethiopia using recycled nickel, copper, and bronze melted down from previous war weapons. Most of the artisans who created the pieces are HIV positive and receive healthcare and literacy training in addition to job training.

So listen. Grace hasn't sold anything yet. If you're so inclined, go buy something from her. Go look at the faces of the women who made it for you and read their stories. It will blow your mind.

You'll get the satisfaction of purchasing a beautiful piece while also providing a way for a woman to use her talent to earn income and take care of her children.

To enter yourself in the necklace giveaway please click over and take a peek at all the Noonday Collection items for sale (links below) and tell me what your favorite one is in the comment section (one comment per person and please leave your email so I can contact you if you win.) Yes, the goal is to get you clicking around. Super tricky, aren't I? I'll leave comments open and randomly pick a number/winner Monday morning.

Necklaces, Earrings, Bracelets, Scarves, Belts, Bags, Sandals, Hats, Home & Gift.

I think the Zeway earringa go nicely with floating triangles. The cow horn earrings were okay but you know, we all feel bad for the cow who had to part with them. Maybe those horns just fall off naturally but strange to have em dangling as a conversation piece on one's ear lobes. My fave item is the Bouquet necklace because it has a nice flash of color, would go with anything and kind of just hangs there looking artsy, freestyle, flowing, and pretty, but not screaming " Yo, Look at me yo!" Subtle Shabui styling which is classy but not ostentatious. I also like those strappy wrappy sandles but I had a pair once and they were like walking around on a piece of flat card board and my feet were not impressed and carried on the whole day. I signed up for a Trunk show... just for fun.

Monica, thanks for sharing the mission of Noonday! What a blessing you are!

Gina, every piece that has either cow horn or bone was taken from a cow that was already dead. I was concerned about that as well, so I found out from the founder Jessica. No animals were harmed in the making of these products, I was assured. Also, everything follows fair-trade standards.

I love Noonday and Grace Miller for her dedication to God and his love for all peoples. My favorite noonday item is the "It's Cozy" java cup cover... What I love about it is that I would never justify getting such an unnecessary accessory, until I really think deeply into what went into making it, who it helps, and how I can use it even on my to go cups in place of that cardboard, saving trees as I go.

How do you pick a favorite?!
These pieces are amazing as is the whole concept.
The floating triangles necklace is seriously beautiful. The story behind the pieces make them even more beautiful, for sure.
