Cocktail Hour Is Nigh

This post is sponsored by Sauza Tequila (could this guy BE any hotter?) and before you get all huffy and click away just know that the end of this post involves you and I drinking margaritas together.

I've written time and time again about my lusty love for a beery beverage. There's nothing like an icy cold one or three to wash away The New Mom Blues on a balmy summer's eve.

It's just that beer isn't exactly a woman who is trying to lose the baby weight's best friend. At this point, even though I watch what I eat pretty closely - and by that I mean I like direct eye contact with my nachos before I shove them in my gaping maw - I still look like I gave birth six months ago when, in fact, I'm coming up on a year and six months.

Ouch.

Something's got to give and it will not, I repeat, will not be mama's cocktail hour. You will pry an alcoholic beverage from my cold, dead fingers before I trade in cocktail hour for a few pounds of baby weight. So cocktail hour stays. Which means the beverage of choice during said cocktail hour is gonna have to change and I already had a lowfat margarita in mind as Mama's New Juice when, by the grace of God, THE GRACE OF GOD, I SAY, the good people of Sauza Tequila contacted me and asked if I was interested in their fine, fine tequila products.

Am I interested in tequila? That's like asking my kid if she wants some chocolate ice cream. Like asking Serge if he wants some of my lady love tonight. Like asking Kim Kardashian if she wouldn't mind tweeting another photo of herself just hanging around in a sexy bikini with full make-up.

What I'm saying is, Kim K likes to be photographed and I like me an icy cold margarita. Nothing says summer like margarita. And summer is coming, people! The sunlight at the end of the winter tunnel is in sight! And, I mean, who says no to free tequila? People who enjoy Kirk Cameron more now than when he was the lovable Mike Seaver on Growing Pains that's who. People who stand around on street corners protesting gay marriage, people who use rattlesnakes during Sunday services, those are the people who say no to tequila and, ironically, it is they who could use tequila more than the rest of us but ALAS, their tequila cups are empty. Me? I'm a positive person and so my cup? It is always half-full and today it is half-full of Sauza Tequila as I raise my glass to you from out here in the country and say CHEERS! Cheers to drinking margaritas on a slow Sunday evening with the mercury in the seventies and writing about tequila!

So yeah, for the record, Kirk Cameron and the like, gay haters and snake-handling religious folk, they are not my people. My people are tequila people. I'm not talking about angry drunks who glug tequila out of paper bag-wrapped bottles (although I'd prefer their company to Kirk Cameron's) I'm talking about sassy margarita drinkers who sip with flair or tired, sweats-wearing mamas who've finally put the kids to bed or suited gentlemen who order Long Island Iced Teas after a long day of number crunching or burly blue collar fellows stopping by the corner bar to nurse a couple fingers of the good stuff while shooting the breeze. These are my people.

In researching Sauza Tequila I discovered they have a variety of super simple margarita recipes on their site (I have my eye on the Light Delight Margarita) but may invite a few friends over for spirits and try out the Ladies Night Lemon Margarita.

QUESTION! Do any of you live within an hour of State College, Pennsylvania? (UPDATE: You aren't required to live within an hour, I just figured nobody would want to drive more than an hour but if driving ten hours for a party is your thing, you're more than welcome!) because I think it could be fun to invite some readers over for a margarita party for the next Sauza post provided you sign a blood oath that you won't go through my underwear drawer or rub your fingers along the ledges of my dusty bookshelves and then go home and blog about it. Who's in? You don't have to be a lady because Lady's Night is for EVERYONE here at the Bielanko homestead.

I was saying, Sauza has a crapload of margarita recipes I'm itching to try out. I didn't even know there were that many kinds of margaritas and still it wasn't the rainbow of margaritas that caught my eye it was the person they had mixing it up... Oh my. Do you think if I do a really good job with this post Sauza might consider sending him over for my margarita party? Because he just might be a tiny bit better than a margarita. I said MIGHT. Because seriously, who hasn't fantasized about making it with a fireman? Making margaritas, I mean. What did you think I meant you dirty bird?

So listen. Does anyone live close enough to have a Cinco De Mayo party at my haunted house? I can arrange a sweet deal at a nearby bed and breakfast and if the firefighter won't do it I'll get Serge to give you a ride back to the B&B at the end of the night. I'll bet if we ask nicely he'll dress up like a fireman...

If hanging and drinking margaritas with me is something you're into, if you are one of "my people" let me know in the comments below so I can gauge the interest. Oh, and tell me which margarita on the Sauza Tequila site catches your fancy so I can stock up on supplies! Who's in?

Clearly this is not my day. I love margaritas, but I live in Jordan. As in, just down the road from Iraq. Sigh. No party for me. I guess I'll have to drink alone. But thanks for the sort-of invite. Next time?

You make me want to move to PA. Have fun at your party!

April 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJen

After Donna's comment, I can't really complain about being four and a half hours away now can I? My friend lives 3 hours away, so she and I would probably drive together, depending on when you plan your firemen party/wetdown (he's bringing his friends, right?). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetdown

I'm slightly farther than an hour (schuylkill county, home of yuengling - hollah!) but immediately wondered if there were any cheap hotels nearby that I could crash at for the night. If you can bend the 'hour away' rule I would LOVE to enjoy a margarita or five with you!

April 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

I wish I could!! I'm a few hours away in Delaware though (the state not the county). Plus I am currently 17 months pregnant and miserable...if we're going to be throwing back margaritas I would need to bring my A game!
Thanks for the recipe link though!! I am scheduled to have this baby on May 17th so you can bet your sweet ass I'll be testing a few of them out by Memorial Day!!
I think I'll try the Southwest Margarita first since it's blue and we're having a boy! :)

I'm a "Sauza Simple" margarita myself.

Also? I'm in. We have a family cabin that we frequent (it's more like Little House in the Woods, and has electricity and water, yo) so I"m like a hop skip and a jump from there many weekends of the year. Near McAlevy's Fort/Greenwood Furnace.

@LolaK - Living more than an hour away doesn't preclude you from coming, I just figured nobody would want to drive more than an hour - but the whole pregnancy thing... I understand. However, I could have a special batch of virgin margaritas just for you...

Monica. I propose a 50 state Sauza Margarita party tour! It will be so easy for you, serge and your two young children to travel across the country for Mama to get driz-unk with her fans ;) Start with Virginia (thats where I am) and then go from there. I hope you have a great time and no crazies show up since its at your house...have fun...make sure you let us know if you decide to take me up on that whole tour idea ;)

I want go to a margarita party. I live in Philly though, I don't know if I can handle being 3 hours away from my 1 year old yet, but this is something I would totally do if I were childless. I met up with a group of women who blogged on a wedding website I read (while I was planning my wedding-duh). It was very weird. I drank like 4 bloody marys while everyone else had water/iced tea, and no one understood my sarcastic, unflattering JOKES ( I was joking people!) about my husband.

But anyway, this sounds really fun!

Lordhavemercy... this is my kind of giveaway/event! Alas, I'm on the west coast-- and on 5 May will be in Hawaii (I know I know, so sad!). Not only would I lurve a margaraita par-tay, I would love to meet the two of yous.

I looked on the Sauza site and at their recipes- very fancy stuff! I have my fave recipe, and luckily have fresh limes from my parents' neighbor for the fixin's: 1part fresh lime juice (just off the tree!) 1 part triple sec 1 part Herradura Reposado (no disrespect, Sauza). Shall I tell you an amusing margarita story?

A couple of weeks ago, my friend was visiting, and we had a big night out in the ci-tay. I thought maggies would be a nice, getting-ready sipping beverage, so there we were. We were primping a bit, and my final thing to do was put in my contact lens (I only wear one-- weird cataract surgery in one eye). She and I were chatting, and I kept ~squinting~ so she finally asks, 'Is your eye OK'. I couldn't really see that well, and thought- 'My contact lens popped out!'. Instead of looking for that bad-boy, I opened a new package and placed a brand new lens in my eye. My vision was even worse! 'They gave me the wrong prescription!!! Ack!' I went to the bathroom and took out the lens... and then took out another.... and then took OUT A THIRD. I had obviously put in the first lens and had totally forgetten about it and then just kept piling them on.

Wish I could come visit, sip a few, and squint right at ya!

I'm also ridonkulous amounts if preggo and that was the hottest thing I've ever seen. And I'm not talking about the dude. Or the kitten. Oh, sweet, sweet tequila. If I wasn't in Georgia I'd so be down for a margarita party in PA!

April 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTara

Dammit Monica, you just HAD to go and move to PA! I live in SLC and would take you up on this invite in half a heartbeat. (Or hearthrob - OMG, he's gorgeous). Have a great party and drink a few for me!

Well I am definitely your people in Margaritas land- I love a frozen Margaritas or a cheeky tequila shot and I would be there like a shot if it wasn't for the fact I live waaaaaay over the sea in France. But I hope you have a fantastic party, it sounds like a blast!

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterVicki

OMG! That guy is super hot! They didn't even need the kitten

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSela

Right? The beard is what did it for me.

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMonicaBielanko

God, I wish I could just pick up and drive down there to have a girls night with people I'd actually like LOL. Alas, I have way too many children and live in Canada, though I'm still only 6.5 hrs away. It would almost be worth the drive just to say I finally crossed the border. How is it that I'm 33 and have never done that??? Crazy! Hope it's a great night and we get a post loaded with photos and details. :)

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMary

Ok so when is this thing going to take place?

I am so thinking that I need my Violet and Henry fix and shit add the Margarites and really how could I not come?

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShelly

You're sweet.

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterClaudia

Party sounds fun. But Florida is a little too far, darn it.

I'd like to see the guy clean shaven. He was a 9 with a beard to me. Probably an 11 without. ;)

Kitten was the star.

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCassie

1st time in commenting. Your site is great, loved this post. Wish I could be there, I have peeps in PA if I ever visit again I'll see if your having another party, but the fireman has to be there. Mary in NY

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMary in NY

@Shelly On May 5th. Cinco de Mayo. It's a Saturday.

@Cassie No rugged fireman for you? Damn, he could put out my fire any time. Really though, I would like to see him clean my house in that same outfit minus the shirt.

April 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTheGirlWho

I also live far, far away so can't come. But it sounds like an amazing idea!
Please, please, make a video so the rest of us can share the fun.
Cheers!

April 18, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTamsin

Oh wow, this sounds like an amazing party..... I'd be traveling 4 ish hours though, perhaps if I can get my partner to consider a mini road trip?

And for all the pregnant ladies commenting, virgin margaritas are soooo good. Especially frozen. Being non-pregnant though (well depending if you asked AZ lawmakers I suppose), I'd have to go with the tequila.

Monica, do you have recommendations for B & B nearby? Might have to investigate my possibilities!

April 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTrina

I'd take the fireman, the drinks and the kitten...... I wonder if the Sauza man does foot rubs too? Hmmm, yea that would be good.

Sounds like you have a fun party formulating.

Next- Sangrias!
