You're So Vain (you probably think this post is about  you)

"I hate to bother, but I just happened to notice that he has two more story reads in this news block than I do.. I wouldn't normally say anything, it's just that he started the newscast yesterday. Sooo.."

***45 minutes later***

"I see you switched one of my news reads to her. Was there any reason for that?" I stop typing. Again. Fingers poised above the keyboard.
"I just felt a relationship with that story" he continues. "I was prepared to read it. So the change is throwing me off."

***20 minutes later***

"You've changed it back to his read. You know I'm a team player, of course. It just seems like it flows better if I read that story. Better segue, am I right? And it's such a ME story, you know what I'm saying?" The blood curdling scream in my head manifests itself in the form of a quiet sigh.
"Actually, I was just adding this story on Hantavirus to the newscast. I'm going to need you to read that. It's very important." I stress.
She brightens. "Oh, excellent. Nevermind about that other story. He can read that. You know me, face time is so not an issue. It's all about informing the viewers."
Riiiight.

coming from the midwest from a strict protestant family and moving to manhattan two months ago has been quite the adjustment for me. it's interesting to see your evolution from 'mormom to married in manhattan.' any advice for a novice new yorker? btw, i'm a female. people see the name joey and automatically think male.

Hey Joey Kim! Glad you found the blog here.. Are you married? Just wondering as it may skew my suggestions. My favorite thing to do alone or in the company of the illustrious rockboy also known as The Surge is to randomly pick a street in Manhattan (Broadway, 5th Ave, 3rd Ave) and walk the entire length of it. The changing landsape is like no other. From crazy street vendors that bleed into Times Square that thins into the Upper West Side and killer old brownstones.. One never knows where a Manhattan sidewalk will lead.. A must: learn the complexities of walking on a crowded sidewalk.. Always merge, always look OTS before veering, NEVER under any circumstances, suddenly stop walking.. Explore Central Park.. you could go every day for a year and find a new spot each time. Divide and conquer by neighborhood. I'd pick a 'hood, take the subway there and just wander, vibing on the locals.. Where do you live? If you go to Times Square around noon and find the building that says TICKETS in giant red letters (ask a cop or anyone.. they'll point it out) you can generally catch a Broadway show matinee for like, half price! And! If the band Marah is ever playing in NYC (I think in a few weeks) you MUST come!

did you get that email from a Barbara Gordon a few weeks back? I sent you a job opening that I got and thought you might be interested in.

I'm hoping this is about your new job and not your old one?
